Changchun (Noble Hotel)

City: Changchun
Province: Jilin
Month/Year of Travel: July 2000
Travel Route in China: Beijing > Changchun; Changchun > Guangzhou > Hong Kong
Name of Hotel: Noble Hotel
Comments about Hotel: Advertised as a five-star hotel, but as our China Women's Travel Service guide said, "it isn't."
Office or Orphanage: We did our Chinese paperwork in Changchun because we were advised not to travel to Yanji, the town where our children's orphanage is located. Traveling there apparently constitutes a security risk. Yanji, which borders North Korea, is a 10-hour train ride away from Changchun.
Sights to See in this city: None, besides street scenes; our outstanding guide helped expedite our paperwork so we could leave Changchun in a record two days
Baby supplies can be purchased at: Local department stores have excellent children's clothing -- far cheaper than Old Navy clothes on sale and far better quality
Places to eat we liked: Not much to choose from outside the hotel; hotel's morning buffet excellent; Korean restaurant around the corner just OK
Things you ought to know while staying here: Live fish in aquariums in second-floor Chinese restaurant in the hotel provide nice entertainment for toddlers; sweeping staircase in hotel lobby also fun to go up and down, up and down -- good way to wear out toddlers
