Guangzhou (White Swan)

City: Guangzhou
Province: Guangdong
Month/Year of Travel: May 1997
Travel Route in China: Flew into Guangzhou from Hong Kong
Name of Hotel: White Swan (sometimes known as the White Stork due to the large number of adoptive families staying there)
Comments about Hotel: 5 Star - there are always many newly formed families staying here while dealing with paperwork at the US consulate. The staff is efficient and many speak some English.
Office or Orphanage: Guangdong Province Adoption paperwork, U.S. Consulate for INS processing.
Sights to See in this city: The Five Rams Park, the Qingping Market, Temple of the Six Banyan Trees, take a walk around Shamian Island, Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall, among others.
Baby supplies can be purchased at: A shop in the hotel shopping arcade
Places to eat we liked: Hotel restaurant on the main floor overlooking the Pearl River, Pan Xi Restaurant which has a legendary Dim Sum lunch, the Hard Rock Cafe (in the China Hotel) if you are desperate for a burger.
Things you ought to know while staying here: You are within a few minutes walk of the US Consulate and the clinic for the required medical exam. Good shopping is also nearby, check out the 'Shop on the Stairs' and others nearby for souvenirs.
